A 400-Level student of English Language of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria, Miss Ruth Loveth Sanusi was gang-raped and killed yesterday by some unidentified men.
P.M.NEWS gathered this morning that the student was raped and macheted in her room at Iyalaje road, opposite Texas Kitchen, a popular eatery at about 10 a.m. yesterday.
Speaking with P.M.NEWS this morning, the OOU students’ union president, Comrade Uthman Rufai, a.k.a. Ibeko, described the incident as a terrible one.
The students’ leader urged the police to do a thorough investigation and fish out the culprits.
He said: “In the early hours of yesterday, some students came to our office to lodge a complaint. When I got there with the welfare officer, transport director and the union secretary, we saw the body of the lady drenched in her own blood. She was butchered.
“We called on the police but the DPO was not around. The DCO led his team to the scene later. We met boyfriend of the deceased called Omotayo who was questioned by the police and is still being interrogated.
“Her remains were taken to the Anatomy Department of the university for embalmment.â€
He said the principal officers of the university and the union leaders have met with the police and urged them to do a thorough investigation to unmask those behind the dastardly act.
A top official of the university who pleaded anonymity told P.M.NEWS that the information gathered from the late Ruth’s male friend could be very revealing. The deceased resided at Abobi area, opposite a vulcanizer’s workshop in Ago Iwoye.
“Her man said she called him on phone to say that she felt some people were on her trail and she was planning to move out of her residence. The friend told her to move to his house but she declined. She later moved to her friend’s house. On Wednesday night, there were series of calls from her supposed killers, one of whom she described as the man troubling her.â€
P.M.NEWS also gathered that Ruth’s friend has also been picked up for questioning by the police.
The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of the Ago Iwoye Police Division, SP Yomi Faniyi, confirmed the arrests.
He wondered what the lady was still doing in the rented hostel when OOU had been closed three weeks ago.
Faniyi confirmed that Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Muyiwa Adejobi, was in Ago Iwoye and the police had sent the foot and finger prints to homicide detectives for investigation.
