Fake Pounds Lands Computer Marketer In Court

A computer marketer, Femi Mayowa, 36, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in  Ogudu, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria for being in possession of fake pounds sterling and obtaining  money under false pretence.

The prosecutor, ASP Eyo Owai, arraigned the suspect on a three-count charge of felony, stealing and  being in possession of fake currency.

The accused was alleged to have obtained N550,000 from a complainant, Mr. Johnson Senowo Olutola under  the pretence of sending him some computer accessories from abroad.

The police also alleged that the accused was found with a fake 50-pound note. The offences are  punishable under Sections 516, 419 and 430 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State  of Nigeria, 2003.

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty and the trial magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje Afunwa,  admitted him on bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, she directed,  must produce evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.

The case has been adjourned till 7 March, 2011 for continuation of trial.
