Woman Docked Over N1.5m Fraud

A woman, Nasiru Funmilayo, 29, has been arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining N1.5m from Oceanic Bank under false pretence.

The police at the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos alleged in the charge sheet that the accused was arrested following a complaint lodged by management of Oceanic Bank, that the accused falsely paraded herself as a distributor with the UTC to obtain N1.5m loan sometime in August 2011 at Oceanic Bank Plc, Muri Okunola branch, Victoria Island, and that all efforts to recover the said loan from her proved abortive.

After investigation, she was charged to court on a four-count charges of stealing.

The offence according to the prosecutor, Haruna Ibrahim are contrary to section 312 (1) and punishable under section 3 and 285 Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Count two read: “that you, Nosiru Funmilayo, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did steal N1.5m property of Oceanic Bank.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O.I. Oguntade, admitted her to bail on self recognition due to ill health after some vital documents belonging to her husband were submitted to the court.

She adjourned the matter till 18 January, 2012 for mention.
