Boko Haram’s 3-Day Ultimatum: It’s A Joke, Igbo Leaders  print

Suspected members of Boko Haram.

Southerners resident in the north have described the Boko Haram three-day ultimatum ordering them to vacate the area as a calculated attempt by the northern hegemony to instigate a full-blown war in Nigeria.

The dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram agitating for the Islamisation in the north gave a three-day ultimatum to all southerners resident in the north to vacate the territory within 72 hours or face unrestricted attack.

Speaking on behalf of Yoruba residents on the north, Prince Ajayi Memayetan, a community leader resident in Kano, described the Boko Haram ultimatum as a huge joke and a slap on the President Goodluck Jonathan government.

“I want to believe they (Boko Haram) are joking because I don’t know how possible a group like that should make such statement in a country where law and order are still in place.

“The truth is that Jonathan’s government is compounding issues, by removing fuel subsidy at this critical time instead of tackling mounting security problems headlong,” Ajayi said.

He urged the Federal Government to make sure that, “this threat by the terrorist group does not happen. If it does, that means we shall be witnessing a very horrible socio-political cum religious crises in this country.”

Memayetan added: “Remember Muhammadu Buhari after the Supreme Court judgement on the April 2011 presidential election said there will be chaos and total breakdown of law and order in the country. Maybe, this is the chaos coming.”

Also, reacting to the ultimatum, Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Kano, Chief Tobias Idika, said, even though Boko Haram’s rhythms were not clear, “it is by implication a subtle move to declare the sovereign state of the north.”

Wondering why an Islamic group should make such a proclamation, Idika declared: “It is clear that a full-blown war has been declared on this nation by the northern oligarchy, using the Boko Haram as a front. It is all the handiwork of northern leaders.”

Idika charged Jonathan to hold northern politicians, traditional rulers and religious leaders responsible if anything happens to the innocent citizens of the country.

“These northern leaders know the Boko Haram boys. They are their foot soldiers and only their leaders can identify them because Boko Haram is working for the interest of the north,” Idika alleged.

While calling for a state of emergency in all the states in the core north, the Ohaneze Ndigbo leader urged southerners resident in the north never to panic because, “if they strike, we shall retaliate. We shall rise up to defend our lives and property, here in the north because this is a Nigerian territory and we are all Nigerians.”

While reiterating that the present scenario is a replay of the circumstances that led to the outbreak war in 1967, Idika noted that the Boko Haram saga is merely a political creation. He wondered why northern politicians are hiding under the garb of religion to spilt the country.

“Jonathan should rise up and defend the citizens of this country in the face of this onslaught against southerners and Christians. Why is the north plotting to spilt the country? By all these happening, the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegun-Ojukwu has been indicated.

“The president should act swiftly before things get out of hand because we can no longer tolerate any further killings of our people and bombing of our properties,” Idika declared.

Meanwhile, traders at Ababar Pini Market, Kano this morning in Sabongeri Kano, closed shops and ran helter skelter as protesters took over the market protesting against the removal of fuel subsidy which saw over 100 percent increase in pump price of petrol.

P.M.NEWS reports that hoodlums took advantage of the protest to break into and loot over 15 shops in the market.

As at this morning, a litre of petroleum is sold at N138 at filling stations in Kano while in the black market, a litre sells for N200.

With this situation, P.M.MEWS gathered that the prices of goods at the markets have skyrocketed. Also, transportation fares have increased astronomically,

For instance, commercial motorcyclists now charge minimum of N60 for the shortest distance while a longer trip which formerly attracted N60 now attracts between N120 and N150.

The Boko Haram threat has also attracted reactions in Kaduna.

Igbos resident in Kaduna have vowed to remain in the North and fight back any attempt to disintegrate Nigeria.

Vice Chairman, Igbo Community Welfare Association in Kaduna, Chief Dominic Uzu who disclosed this to P.M.NEWS today said the order is not tenable and should be treated with all seriousness.

Uzu stated: “Boko Haram or whatever name they call themselves cannot continue to create any atmosphere of fear and insecurity and people just watch them as if they are untouchables.”

According to Uzu and other Igbo traders interviewed by our correspondent, the Boko Haram should know that Igbos are Nigerians who have their fundamental right to reside anywhere in Nigeria and do their businesses.

The Igbos interviewed said it is now clear that the Boko Haram sect have other motives than their earlier opposition to western education.

One of the Igbos said, “for the Boko Haram sect to say that southerners should leave the north is an evidence that they are anti-Nigeria and not western education as they claimed.”

He, however, urged the Federal Government not to treat the order with kid gloves.

“We believe that we have a constituted authority which should handle this matter with all the seriousness it deserves before the southerners including the Igbos begin to take the laws into their hands.

According to him, the Boko Haram sect is just a few number of people in the north and their activities in recent past have shown that they are anti-Nigeria. So, the president should order the soldiers and other security agents to ensure there is law and order.

Boko Haram had given Christians and southerners living in northern Nigeria, a three-day ultimatum to leave the area or face the consequences.

A spokesman for the sect, Abul Qada, who spoke to journalists on Sunday night, also stated that soldiers deployed by President Goodluck Jonathan to enforce a state of emergency he declared on Saturday in some parts of four northern states would be targeted.

  1. Let s wait and watch how this whole thing plays out. The Northern politicians are playing their last card.

  2. Emmanuel Ukpe

Unfortunately, ignorant is a bad disease. Did this group, Boko Haram that is, actually think of the consequences before they speak?
I do not blame Boko Haram group, it is unfortunate that Nigeria do not have a President, Mr. President Jonathan, why not resign if you lack sense of direction, instead of given reason for a military coup? It has become inevitable; it is just a matter of time. I do not know who your advisers are, but they are bunch of fools. Anyway, maybe that is what is good for a lawless Nigeria. A Draconian…

  3. Omar Muhammad

Mr Tobias idika, I am disappointed in your analysis of saying that the Boko Haram are fighting for the interest of the North, and that they are northern oligarchy’s front. As a leader of a certain group of people you have to be very critical and be using facts in your comment inorder not to creat chaos. You will have to knoW that Boko Haram consist of very few people in the North notably from kanuri speaking people if Borno sTate, so judging their activities to the entire North is not fair. For example when some few months back some people in Bayelsa gave the muslims there an ultimatum to leave the entire Niger Delte region within a week why don’t we judge them as the front or messengers of the entire region. Please sir let’s be fair in our analysis for the betterment of this country. We in the North say ‘NO’ to Boko Haram and their activities, they are not part of us and they are not Muslims anymore.

    • TO OMAR

  7. u. osimiri

belive it or not nigeria is not a nation and will never be on this present structure wonder why we cant revert to confedreted regions and spare the blood of inocent citizens . on this point we need to stage mass protest not on vanities awake my my country people we need national confrence

  8. oluomo

I think GEJ is d last President of one Nigeria. What a passive president. Shio!!

  9. Ignatius Soronnadi

What is happening in Nigeria is an act of God. Nigeria is slipping off the cliff. It is a country that will not see the light of day. The blood of the Easterners they killed in the 60′s is haunting them. When you spill that kind of blood, the after effect is confussion. Every now and then, this muslims will spring out from no where without provocation killing any body at sight. These muslims has committed atrocities in no small measure. This is so disgusting. I wonder which way those lilly livered other parts of the country are heading regarding this. The time to strike is now . Strike with a devastating blow and make them feel the heat. There should be no mercy for the merciless! The other side especially the Igbo are fools; they sold their birth rite for a portion of stew by flooding and fortifying the north and leaving their native land impoverished; hence they are reluctant to leave at this vintage time because they do not want to loose their wanton investments in the north. Where is the military might: get SHELL, AGIP, and the rest to sponsor you, go bomb and anihilate ODI, Zakibiam, Ogoni, Okerenkoko, MASSOB, kill, maim, loot, rape, and destroy anything that moves, but hit the north with kid gloves. After all its just a sect “BOKO HARAM”.

  10. Muhammad Buhari’s work in action!!!!!!

  11. Nwafo Igbo!!!

My fellow Igbo kinsmen in the northern Nigeria, I know that its not easy to turn your backs to your properties, investments and so on in the north. Now some of the owners of the land where you sojourn (Boko-Haram sect) have turned hostile and have said you should leave their land, please in the interest of peace, your lives, wives and children, please do leave oooh! I know that it is not in our nature or our making to turn our backs to challenges, being the IGBO’s we are, However we’ve always been the endengered species as far as Nigeria is concerned. I’ve heard the tone of the Igbo leaders in the north, but we forget that the present administration has paid but lip service to the menace of the Boko Haram, ever since they started. Our present government is highly insensitive. Yes as the Igbos, we have right to live and do business in any part of the country where we choose, but now that the owners of the soil wherein you live and do your business have turned hostile and ask you to leave and considering thet we have no government that will come to your rescue, please leave. I’ll strongly advise that if you the men want to stay back and wage war, send your wives and children home so that there will not be much casualties. This whole thing sounds like a dress rehearsal of the 1966 problem that eventually culminated to the start of the Nigeria – Biafra civil war. it looks like another such calamity is brewing again. If you the men want to stay back, be wise this time, don’t under estimate the number of your enemies, you are in their homeland ooh! Send your wives and children home. Make sure you have your Ogbunigwe’s (Ojukwu Bucket) to match Boko Haram’s bombs. Do your home work well and prepare ahead of time, so that you will not be taken unawares, if not retreat and get ready to fight another day! Long live the Igbo race!

  12. nnabuike

All the southerners should live north and come back home in the meantime, i didn’t concur with ohaneze ndi igbo, is better if we come back home, we shouldn’t wait for them to strike before retaliating, it may be the worst ever, come back home we are not one Nigeria as we think life has no spare.

  13. iheanacho

you all should take heed… Beware for your words knowingly or unknowingly sound as though you hope for a war!! And that… this country might not recover from… Do everything in the interest of the people!

Yes,the time has come for GEJ to realise the importance attached to aken decision as at when due.The Bokos has taken the mantle of leadership,commander-in- chief for the disgruntled ,ragamuffin elements. What an insult,a group can give order and the Presidency is shaken,it has happened when agroup ordered the OCT1 to be celebraated quitely ,the President gave a nod,any organisation can threatened the unity of disunited Nigeria,an accident geography ,an intended position by Lord Lugard to put the ants in position of an elephant, allowing the seriousness to be managed by unchallant attitudinal rot of all time.
The Boko announcement is in order,at least some one must BELL the CAT,the silence has been broken, the news is not news, the bomb has been laid, explosion has taken place,
Your president acted at the last minute, poor nigerians, weak nigeria, fatherless nigeria. The decision to combat the BOKOS has lapsed.Lets call it quit, though it will not be easy, because those to killed will eventually disappear,it does not take them time to become a citizen of any country, despite the fact that we know their origin to be from KAN MUSA,SUNDIATA etc origin.
This is the period to take issue serious as what we have been hiden has been exposed……..NORTHERNERS ,SOUTHERNERS……Congratulations NIGERIAN

With all these diverse ethnic and religious group,i think all we need now is seperation..the igbo’s have spoken the way that they av done because they percieved the danger of losing all they av worked for..

  18. wuyi

there is no leadership by birth it is only a fool would discreminate. well it has been written dat you shall know them by their fruit: Boko haram are the black sheep of these country, perharps the shadow of any image that’s not of God shall be destroyed mr.president remember you are elected by the Nigrian citizen, yestarday shall never better today and tomorrow is unknown as susayer my advise to you is that don’t be too cold or too hot. The drum is set also the dancer is ready

  19. Sunday

Omar, let us be sincere with ourselves, this sect are muslims and are fighting in the interests of all muslims not even the north only. Why do muslims derive pleasure in burning churches? How many mosques have been burnt by christians? Why have northern muslims refused to report boko haram members or are they not living among other people in the north?

  20. Peace be upon to everyone in the country. I was very disappointed by some of the comment from some of our follow nigerians, the way southerners are misscourting northerners, pls you should stop generalising.we are not supporting what boko haram people are doing, becouse is not a teching of our religion Islam. I’m going to use this opportunity to call the attention of southerners that are living in the northern region, to calm down, northing is going to happing with them by God grace.lets unite our self to pray for peace to our country nigerian thanks.

  21. DOROTHY

It is so unfortunate that our dear President GEJ cannot do anything about BOKO HARAM and Security in our Nation Nigeria. These men have ordered that all southeners leave their states.
I for one think that it is an unlawful act.
Omar Muhammad ,please do not be disappointed at what Idika said.Reason being that the Northern leaders are not moved by this.I think this as soon as this act succeed, the Northern states can practice Sharia which is according to Islam rites and Laws.
Therefore,my fellow brothers and sisters, great citizens of Nigeria,i think it is high time we split.
The Government is not helping the situation and so we can therefore not rely on them.I actually mentioned this decision/idea to a group of friends but they didnt agree.
I know it sounds crazy considering the fact that we as a nation have gone through so much but my Question to you now my dear brethren is “Should innocent/Common men in Nigeria be killed or disfigured becos of Boko Haram?”
    - “Should we always have the fear at the back of our minds that we will be blown to pieces by one of the numerous bombs of Boko Haram whenever we step out of our houses?”
As for me oooo, i think the answer is NO and so since this division between the Northeners and Southerners will bring Peace to us once again,it is high time we moved on without the people from the North.

    This is my decision.

    I rest my case.

  22. SIKIRU ADETONA

HUUMN! AM SURE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL NOT TAKE ANY SWIFT PREVENTIVE MEASURE TO AVERT THE ACTUALISATION OF THE THREAT OF THE DREADED INSURGENTS: Boko UNTIL THE PECIOUS LIVES OF INNOCENT NIGERIANS ARE AGAIN WASTED! BIG GRAMMARS LIKE COWARDICE! DASTARDLY! EGREGIOUS! IGNOMINIOUS e.t.c. WILL CONSEQUENTLY LITTER OUR DAILIES.IT IS NO DOUBT THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA HAS FAILED WOEFULLY IN HER PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY OF SECURING THE LIVES AND PROPERTIES OF THE CITIZENRY! STATE OF ANARCHY LOOMS! AMERICA PREDICTED IT! ‘SOME PEOPLE’ MUST RESIGN NOW AS PACK OF INCAPABLES! NIGERIANS SHOULD APPEAL TO GEN.IBRAHIM BABANGIDA TO, AS A MATTER OF UTMOST URGENCY, LEAD US AGAIN, WHO IS BOKO HARAM BEFORE THE GREAT IBB? BE SURE THAT THE invisible AND invincible BOKOs HAS NOT FOR ONCE SPOKEN AND EATEN THEIR WORDS! HUUNM! HUUNM! HUN! ME I TALK MY OWN O!

  23. Omemma

Its very unfortunate that a massacre of this magnitude happened and a shameless fool like nameless omo eko use it as avenue to express his tribalistic character which they were known of.
Its honestly shameful that ppl like this eps still exist in this globe which has turn to be a village as global village where ppl hv the right to live wherever they wish, buy land where they want and express themselves free as they want “which is right of expression” Whereas omo eko find it to be dominance as he indicated many yerobas are also victim and sympathizers to this senseless act by senseless ppl called themselves book harram.
Omo eko is not a name and I know that those that answer such names like omo eko are not Nigerians, they migrated from Benin Republic, speaking yeroba language deos not make you a yeroba. We know them from the way they express things amd when they talk, you’ll know that fools are talking and honestly speaking, they don’t represent the view of the yerobas.
The yerobas are not stupid like omo eko.
Pls grow up you “mumu” that call urself omo eko, the yerobas are in the east also. Some of them are living in my hometown “Orlu” and they hv someone that they took as their leader there, hence they hv the right to call him whatever they wish.
The northerners’ blved that GEJ is Igbo that is why the Igbos is targeted and there is noting u can do about it. The Rivers, Cross Rivers and the entire east-south and east-east are one body that’ll never separate again like the way ur fathers did in 1967. Go to hell cos Igbos will continue to prosper!.

  24. JOEL
