Teenager, Accomplice Remanded For Alleged Robbery

An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Wednesday remanded a teenager, Omoniyi Ayetoba and Babatunde Afolayan, 34, in prison over alleged armed robbery.

Magistrate O.O. Olatunji said that the court would not take the pleas of the accused, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The court ordered that the accused be remanded in the Ikoyi Prisons and adjourned the case to May 7 to get the DPP’s advice on whether it could hear the case.

Ayetoba,18, and Afolayan, an artisan were charged with armed robbery.

The duo were arraigned for allegedly robbing Elizabeth Nutiamodo of her valuables, worth N200,000, at gunpoint.

The accused are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The prosecutor, Corporal Isaac Aminu, alleged that the duo robbed Nutiamodo of her Blackberry phone worth N80,000, recharge cards worth N70,000 and N50,000 cash.

Aminu said that the defendants robbed Nutiamodo at gun point on March 2, at a spot in Ajah area of Lagos.

“The defendants were arrested at the robbery spot by some policemen on patrol,“ Aminu said.

The prosecutor also said that the address of the duo was yet to be ascertained, adding that the alleged offence contravened Section 1 of the Robbery and Fire Arms Act, Laws of Nigeria, 2004.
