Explosion In Sabon Gari

At least three persons were injured and six vehicles were damaged on New Road, Sabon Gari, Kano northwest Nigeria, Sunday evening when a locally made bomb exploded at a drinking joint.

The incident which occurred at 38, New Road, at about 7:30p.m. caused panic among residents of Sabon Gari predominantly inhabited by non-Christians and non-natives.

As the sound of the explosion reverberated around the scene of the blast, people ran helter-skelter as shop-owners and beer palour operators hurriedly closed shop.

“I heard an explosion which followed shouts and wailing. As I peeped through the window, I saw people running helter-skelter for dear lives,” said a resident near the scene of the incident.

An eyewitness account has it that the blast took everyone around by surprise.

“No one could tell where it came from, but there was a black jeep parked beside the scene which was apparently abandoned by the owner. Perhaps he set off the explosive and ran away.”

When P.M.NEWS visited the scene, soldiers and mobile policemen had cordoned off the area.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Musa Magaji Majiya said he was yet to get details of the incident.

P.M.NEWS recalls that about two months, a twin blast at New Road Luxury Terminal created fear and apprehension among residents of Sabon Gari as most of them engaged in panic traveling.
