Mr. Okpo Ekere, the Transition Committee Chairman of Mbo Local Government of Akwa Ibom who was mobbed by irate youths two weeks ago, has been flown to India for medical attention.
Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom disclosed this to newsmen in Eket at the inauguration of an office complex of Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) in Uyo on Monday. Akpabio said in order to show that the administration cared for its citizens, he had to direct that the council boss be flown to India for adequate treatment.
The council boss was attacked when he went to settle a communal dispute between Ebughu and Efiat communities in the Local Government Area.
Ekere was shot by the irate youths and was rushed to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for treatment.
