Edo LG Workers Threaten Strike Over Salaries  print

The relationship between local government councils in Edo State and their workers may witness serious crisis if urgent action is not taken to nip it in the bud.

This follows the threat issued by the state chapter of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in five local governments to embark on 3-day warning strike over the non-payment of workers’ salaries for three months.

The union made their positions known in a communiqué issued at an

emergency meeting of the state executive council on Tuesday, and signed by the association’s President, Comrade Patrick Okeralen, and Secretaries of the 18 local  council areas in the state.

The affected local government areas are Oredo, Uhunmwonde, Orhionmwon, Ikpoba-Okha and Esan West.

A communiqué signed by the association’s President, Patrick Okerelan and the 18 local government council secretaries in the state, and made available to P.M.NEWS yesterday handed-out a 7-day ultimatum to the defaulting councils, following which the union will commence a warning strike in the affected council areas on Monday, 13 August 2012.

While condemning the elongation of service by some members, whose service were allegedly due for retirement, the communiqué equally resolved to embark on a peaceful protest in that direction on Tuesday 7th August, 2012.
