Pregnant Woman Bites Neighbour's Breast

Mrs.-Bola-Ajiboye

A pregnant woman, Mrs. Funke Jamiu, has been remanded in prison custody at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria for allegedly biting her neighbour’s breast during a fight at their Lagos residence. The complainant was identified as Mrs. Bola Ajiboye.

The presiding magistrate at the Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos where she was arraigned, Mrs. M.B. Folami, ordered her detention in prison until she is able to meet the conditions attached to her bail.

The incident occurred at 17, Awolo Street, Ijagemo, on the outskirts of Lagos where both the complainant  and the accused reside.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the two women, despite being neighbours, have not been living in peace over the years. Efforts by their neighbours to reconcile them in the past, it was learnt, failed.

Narrating what happened, Mrs. Ajiboye from Ogun State told P.M.NEWS that there was a brawl between her child and Funke’s, adding that her effort to separate the girls was resisted by the accused who insisted that they should be left alone to determine who is the strongest.

“As I was trying to pull the combatants apart, she charged at me, grabbed my breast and bit it. There was blood all over my body before I was rushed to the hospital by neighbours,” the complainant narrated.

The accused who is from Oyo State and married to an Ogun State indigene, blamed the devil for her action.

On what she had done to appease the complainant, she revealed that her husband begged her (complainant) on her behalf but she reported the attack to the police and she was arrested.

She disclosed further that her husband and others met with the complainant to settle the matter but before this could be done the matter was charged to court by the police.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Adeyele Olufemi, accused her of inflicting injury on the complainant, an offence contrary to Section 244 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor objected to her being granted bail because the complainant was still receiving treatment in the hospital. He disclosed further that doctors at the hospital were yet to ascertain the degree of her injury.

The magistrate explained that bail can be granted at the discretion of the court.

She therefore granted her bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The court also ordered that the complainant’s medical report should be made available at the next sitting to ascertain the medical condition of the complainant. The matter was adjourned till 14 December 2012.
