Okonkwo made the call in Nsukka while receiving an entertainment excellence award during the first cultural festival organised by Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.

He said the government should intervene by flying Nwosu abroad and sponsoring her medical treatment since she did not have the required finance to do that.

“Nwosu has contributed so much to the development of the entertainment industry in the country.

“It is at this time of need that government and spirited individuals will show appreciation to the popular Nollywood actress who has acted countless local movies.

“I commend Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state who donated N4.5m to Nwosu; I urge other governors and spirited individuals to emulate Fashola.

“Nwosu has been diagnosed with kidney problem; the money involved for treatment abroad is beyond what members of Nollywood will raise,” he said.

Okonkwo, who hails from Nsukka thanked the council for finding him worthy for the award and promised to continue to be a good ambassador of the people.

“This award will lift me to greater height in doing more to the country. “I will continue to be worthy ambassador of Nsukka by shunning anything that will bring shame to Nsukka people,” he said.

Mr Okwudili Ogbuenyi, Chief Executive of Skull Entertainment, and manager of the festival, said it was aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of Nsukka and its community-based tourism.
