Apapa Golden Stars Wallop Ikoyi Obalende

Lagos Junior League title contenders, Apapa Golden Stars continued from where they stopped in 2012 when the league resumed at the weekend as they pummeled Ikoyi Obalende 6-1 on Sunday at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Adewale Sapara scored four goals with Abba Ojo scored one while Ikoyi Obalende defender scored own goal to put Apapa Golden Stars on 19 points, two points behind league leaders, Nathaniel Boys.

Speaking after the match, Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Ayodeji Joseph who led his cabinet to the match venue praised coach Nathaniel Olagunju and his players. He charged them to utilise their scoring chances in their future games.

“It was a great game but we must learn how to take our chances because goal difference will count at the end of the season,” he said.

Meanwhile, Odi Olowo lost 5-0 to league’s leaders Nath Boys on Saturday, while Lagos Island East and Eti Osa played a 4-4 draw at the same venue.

Also, Apapa Iganmu and Lagos Island West had to settle for a goal apiece at the Onikan Stadium, while rejuvenated Oshodi Isolo demolished seemingly resilient Mosan Okunola 6-2.
