Nigerian priest gives reasons for rape 
Published on January 26, 2013 by pmnews · 9 CommentsA Nigerian Anglican priest has blamed indecent dressing by ladies and the lack of the fear of God, for the increasing cases of rape.
The priest at St Luke Anglican Church, Akwakuma, Owerri, Rev. Ogechi Ofurum, said a God fearing man would regard any woman as his biological sister and not be motivated to rape her.
He said indecent dressing by young ladies also caused men without self-control to commit rape.
“The type of skimpy clothes ladies wear nowadays is appalling. Clothes that children of 10 and 11 years wear have now become the fashion of adults of 18 years and above.
“Those clothes are so tight on them that every part of their body shows, thereby provoking men to force themselves on them,” he said.
The priest said increased cases of rape in Nigeria and the world proved the fulfillment of what the Bible said about the last days.
“The Bible says iniquity will abound at the last days before Jesus comes. So, evil is on the increase as a sign of the end time,” he said.
He stressed the need for people to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal savior, adding that iniquity will reduce in the society if men are godly.
He also advised women to have a sense of morality.
“Young girls should dress modestly and let those who use rape as a trap for their opponents, especially those in politics and offices, desist from it.
“We advocate a change spiritually by calling on all to surrender to Jesus and maintain etiquette in all they do. God has given us conscience to know good and bad, let’s stick to what is good,” he said.

THIS TIME I AGREE WITH THIS PRIEST. WE ARE LOOSING OUR CULTURE TO DSN AND CABLE TV. EVERY CHILD WANTS TO DRESS AND TALK LIKE THE AMERICANS THEY SEE ON TV. BOTH MEN AND WOMEN WEAR THEIR TROUSER AND SKIRTS ON THEIR THIGH SHOWING THEIR UNDERWEAR. WHEN THEY TRY TO SPEAK ENGLISH IN AMERICAN SLANG, YOU COULD HARDLY UNDERSTAND A SENTENCE. NO ONE IS LISTENING TO TRADITIONAL MUSIC AGAIN, EVERYONE SING “RAP” WHICH YOU COULD NEVER UNDERSTAND A SINGLE SENTENCE IN THEIR LYRICS. IN FEW YEARS, NOBODY WILL BE LISTENING TO OSADEBE, SUNNY ADE AND THOSE MUSICIANS AGAIN, THAT PART OF OUR CULTURE WILL BE ERODED FOR EVER. THE GOVERNMENT NEED TO CONTROL OUR EXPOSURE TO WESTERN TV LIKE THEY DO IN SAUDI ARABIA IN ORDER TO CONSERVE OUR TRADITION AND CULTURE.

Nigerians still remain Nigerians, as we can all see what is happening in the country every body want to be come rich or out ragious in one way or the other people have to be going out of their shell to enties one another just to do something ………………………………………………
To discourage rape the convicted assailants should be castrated .The practice is on the rise because the punishment is not sufficiently deterrent.
Our women should be protected
Nigeria is in trouble when people who are supposed to be educated are talking like stark illiterates. Rather than condemn the rapist and the ungodly act of rape the clergyman is shifting the blame on the victims and making excuses for the rapist. For crying out loud, a rapist can rape a year old child as we have seen in many instances in Nigeria. Is it the dressing of the child that made her to be raped? Rapists also rape old, helpless women in their 70s and above. Is it because of the indecent dressing of the grannies that lead to this? There have been reported cases of mass rape of nuns in convents all over the world. Is it because of indecent dressing that this happens? My advice to this priest is that he should go beyond his narrow-minded religious books and read books on the sociology and psychology of rape and the rapist. This will do him a lot of good and make him a better priest.
Mr Jerry got the priest wrong. Rapists exposed to indecent dressing over time have pent up passion that they crave to release but have no avenue so they clamp on any available opportunity. That is why an adult can go on an underage and even old women or nuns. The less the incident of indecent exposure and righteous living the less the acts of rape and other criminality. We need spiritual purification from the inside out. May the Lord help us.
My question is why can’t these people with pent up desires just go to a professional sex worker for relief?
Secondly, most rapes are committed by familiar people whom these ladies are supposed to trust. Women should be taught a new set of rules of engagement by thier mothers from an early age and learn to adopt a defensive approach wrt contact with the oposite sex. They also should not send the wrong signals so they don’t end in a situation where they can’t finish what they started. May God protect our women and girls.
