Police Games Hots Up In Port Harcourt

The ongoing 10th Police Games is currently generating excitement among the participating cops in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The athletes were seen contesting spiritedly in different events to win medals for their respective zones.

At the Liberation Stadium, Elekahia, where the football tournament is being staged, six matches have already been decided; four and two in the male and female categories respectively.

In the first match, Zone 9 Umuahia walloped Zone 1 Kano 3-1, Zone 7 Abuja defeated Zone 6 Calabar (the host) 3-1, Zone 11 Osogbo beat Zone 4, Makurdi 3-1, while FHQ beat Zone 5 Benin 2-1. In the female category, Zone 6 Benin walked over Zone 1, Kano, while Zone 2, Lagos defeated Zone 7, Abuja 4-1.

Results of events at the Civic Centre (Agbani Derego Sports Complex) hosting all Martial Art events indicate that medallists have already emerged in Karate, Taekwondo, and Judo. In the Judo +100Kg, David Joseph of Zone 11 won gold medal, while the silver medal went to Victor Nwaozuzu of Zone 9. Kayode Oyewole of Zone 2 and Ojah Ekpenyong of Zone FHQ won bronze medals each.

Edward Shinyi of Zone 6 won the gold in Karate, silver medal went to Edoh Peter of Zone 7, while the duo of Ossai Sebastine (Zone 9) and Tunde Endurance (Zone 5) won the bronze medals. In the 800m women’s final, Oluchi Offorma (Zone 7) won gold medal, FHQ’s Bumi Odejobi won silver, while Tosin Kalejaiye (Zone 7) won the bronze medal.
