The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned candidates, who will sit for the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to desist from examination malpractice.

Its Registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, who gave the warning in Abuja on Wednesday at a news conference, said that candidates found wanting would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Ojerinde said that the board was determined to curb examination malpractice in order to ensure credibility in UTME examinations.

He said: “I want to sound a note of warning that those trying to compromise our well organised arrangements shall be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“The board is hereby appealing to candidates to strictly adhere to laid down rules by conducting themselves properly during the examination.

“We want to assure the public that JAMB is alive to its responsibilities.”

Ojerinde said that the board would continue to sustain the use of the biometrics finger print to check impersonation, lateness and proper identification of candidates before admitting them for the examination.

He added that the system had helped to a large extent in reducing cases of examination malpractice.

He urged candidates to ensure that they printed their e-registration slips that contained proper identification, information of centres, examination numbers and UTME subject, choice of institutions and proper course of study.

The registrar said: “This is because candidates will not be allowed into the examination halls with any writing materials, mobile phones or any communication gadget in or around the examination venue.

“Anyone found with any gadget will be deemed to have been engaged in examination malpractice and will be made to face the full weight of the provisions of examination malpractice law.”

The JAMB boss said that candidates would be allowed to change their choices of institutions and courses only once, adding that the change could only be done within two weeks after the results had been released.

He then urged supervisors to adhere to the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the examination to ensure that it went without any hitch.

Ojerinde said that the board would engage the services of security organisations to monitor the examination centres and maintain close surveillance during the examination for peaceful and successful conduct.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that JAMB will be conducting the Paper Pencil Test and the Dual Based Test on Saturday, 27 April.
