Gunmen attack Nigerian village

The state of lawlessness in Nigeria appears unending with another reported attack by gunmen on residents of Atakar chiefdom in the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna.

The chiefdom in Kaura local council of the state, comprises several villages, whose residents sought refuge outside of it five weeks ago, after an attack by Fulani herdsmen. The villagers were returning to their various homes when they were attacked again early this morning.

Witnesses told P.M.News that the latest attack was carried out by veiled gunmen, riding on auto-bike.

They were said to have blasted through Zangar Atakar village, opening fire in all directions.

There was no immediate confirmation of deaths, but no fewer than 10 persons were said to have been injured.

“I personally helped four people that were shot to the hospital today , but it’s possible that some of them that sustain severe injuries might not survive’, a witness stated. The injured were taken to Jankwano ECWA Church Hospital, Jos and Kaura General Hospital for treatment.

Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, Aminu Lawan who also confirmed the attack said the police got the information this morning and have immediately deployed armed officers to the area to maintain peace in the affected village.

Five weeks ago , an alleged fatal poisoning of two cows through in Mafan village, Fadan Atakar Chiefdom set off an orgy that led to the killing of 19 people, and the destruction of four villages including the recently attacked Zangar-Atakar.

Also, 10 people were critically injured in the violence.
