Man Remanded For Stabbing Teacher

An Ilorin Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday remanded in prison Jacob Olaniyan for allegedly stabbing a teacher, Mrs. Popoola Bola.

The accused was alleged to have stabbed the victim, a teacher with Dolapo Group of Schools, all over the body with a knife on 31 May, along Tanke Area, Ilorin, Kwara state.

According to the charge sheet, the accused person stabbed the victim when she was going to buy food during breakfast period, adding that the victim was rescued unconscious by some roadside mechanics while shouting for help.

The prosecutor, Inspector Baliqees Adu, told the court that investigation revealed that the accused was a habitual criminal who had killed a mother and daughter in Tanke area five years ago.

Adu said the accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of causing grievous hurt and attempt to commit culpable homicide contrary to Sections 248 of the Penal Code Law.

She objected to the bail of the accused, arguing that the alleged offences were not ordinarily bailable.

In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Mr. Moses Adeniyi,  ordered the remand of the accused at Mandala Prison, Ilorin, while adjourning the case till 18 June for mention.
