Ajimobi unveils commissioners; Gbadegesin, 4 others return

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the western Nigerian state of Oyo has submitted a list of 12 names for confirmation as commissioners to the state House of Assembly.

The nominees include five members of the dissolved cabinet, namely, Mr Adebayo Ojo, Mr Dapo Lam Adesina, Ms Adetutu Adeyemi Akhigbe, Muyiwa Gbadegesin and Zacheus Adelabu.

The new appointees are Prof. S.O. Olaniyan, Ms Olufunke Oworu, Mr Gbade Lana, Mr Faruk Alao, Mr Adewale Olujide, Mr Abiodun Atanda and Mr Deji Akande.

The Speaker of the assembly, Mrs Monsurat Sunmonu, read out the list at plenary on Tuesday.

She promised that the lawmakers would scrutinise the credentials of the nominees.

“The assembly members will go through the credentials of the nominees and make sure that a thorough job is done,” she said.

The speaker said the nominees would appear in the assembly for screening on Wednesday by 10 a.m, adding that they were expected to bring 40 copies of their credentials.

Governor Ajimobi dissolved his cabinet on 23 September.

Meanwhile, the Assembly on Tuesday has approved the extension of the tenure of the 33 local government Transition Committees by six months following a request by Gov. Abiola Ajimobi.

The tenure of the committees was due to expire on Thursday after their appointment six months ago.
