The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has warned Nigerians of the activities of some production companies in the country which fraudulently claim to have been registered with the agency.

The product regulating agency in a statement signed by its management, specifically mentioned manufacturers of herbal products and medicines as intentionally misleading the public in order to get patronage.

The statement accused the product manufacturers of “illegal, unsubstantiated, misleading advertisements and promotions of unregistered NAFDAC regulated products.

“This is in total disregard for the extant laws including the provisions of Food and Drug Act CAP F32 LFN 2004, Food, Drugs and Related Products (Reg. etc) Act CAP F33 LFN 2004, Marketing (Breast Milk Substitute) Act CAP M5.

“Particularly worrisome is the unbridled, notorious and misleading claims on herbal preparations and medicines as well as the advertisement of unregistered food supplements, nutriceuticals and aphrodisiacs.“
