The police in Lagos State, western Nigeria, have arrested and paraded two suspected cross-border armed dealers and recovered 10 AK47 rifles and 19 magazines all loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition from them.
The men were paraded by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Manko at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.
The suspects identified as Abdulazeez Amao, 47, and Olatunbosun Olatunji, 48, were arrested by the the men of State Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
Olatunji was arrested at Suberu area of Ikorodu, Lagos, and he allegedly confessed that Amao supplies gun to his gang and sells each rifle for N320,000.
According to Manko, following the confession, SARS decoy team was deployed to Ibadan in Oyo State and after eight days of intensive investigation, Amao was arrested in his house at Ayegun Adasun area, Olomi bus stop, Ibadan, Oyo State where the arms were recovered.
Amao said he was only a business man that deals with arms and he buys them from his customers known as Zakari Watara in Burkina Faso.
On how he brings the weapons into Nigeria, Amao said he packs them into milk cartons ad transports the arms to Paraku town in Benin Republic from where he repackages the rifles into sacks containing yam flour (elubo) and then transports the arms to Ibadan through Kabo border.
The police said investigation continues and the suspects will be charged to court after investigation.
