A delegation from the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing on Thursday visited the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti, to assess the level of work on the ongoing road projects in the institution.

The delegation was led by the Director, Highway Planning and Development, Mr Funso Adeniyi.

Adeniyi said the team was in the institution to ascertain the status of the on-going Federal Government road intervention projects in the university.

He said the team would also identify some of the challenges facing the projects as well as recommend ways of ensuring their timely completion.

The Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Kayode Soremekun, in his remarks, commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing for initiating the project.

“Good road access is something that the school needs because it will speak to its decency.

“ It is not healthy where the roads are not tarred; the roads are full of mud and in the dry season, the dust can be very debilitating.

“In the wet season, another set of challenge will emerge in the sense that cars get stuck and one may ask, is this a federal university?

“ It is not a good advertisement for the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“Luckily, I am happy that under this administration led by President Buhari, there is a solution,’’ the vice-chancellor said.

He also decried the ecological challenge faced by the institution as a result of erosion, urging the construction company involved in the initiative to ensure timely completion.

Soremekun also pleaded with the ministry to ensure the university was connected to the national grid, saying the institution depended on generators.

“I will urge the minister to continue to help us. As I speak to you now, we operate 24 hours and seven days on generators. We are yet to be fully connected to the national grid,’’ he said.
