1`The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says airport security and other logistics have been upgraded and strengthened ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

She said that the move was in view of the expected increase in passenger traffic in and around the airports.

Yakubu said that receiving of dignitaries at restricted areas by security agents and airport officials was prohibited and anyone found wanting would be apprehended and prosecuted.

She assured air travelers in the country of efficient service delivery and safety at airports during and after the celebration.

“The VIP Protocol lounges at both the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) and General Aviation Terminal (GAT), Lagos, have been refurbished to give maximum comfort and value to our customers,” Yakubu said.

The FAAN official said that the maintenance of conveyor belts and escalators at the MMIA had been completed and were functioning optimally.

Yakubu said that in anticipation of traffic surge during the season, the management was set to open the Departure Hall at the Terminal D of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja to ease traffic at the airport.

“We have also installed new directional display units to guide travellers, especially new ones, at our airports,” she said.

Yakubu, however, advised the general public and intending travellers to make early preparations towards completing their travel requirements in good time.

She reiterated FAAN’s commitment to its core values of safety; security and comfort to airport users.

The Eid-el- Kabir celebration is expected to come up next week.
