Insecurity: Baptist Conference urges FG to find lasting solution

The federal government has been urged to find a lasting solution to the killings of innocent people, especially in the northern part of the country.

This was made known on Thursday by the Ogun State Baptist Conference President, Reverend ‘Wale Oyeniyi at a Press Conference held in Abeokuta, the state capital to outline activities lined-up for this year’s conference.

Oyeniyi who described the menace as not only worrisome but unfortunate and unacceptable said government must ensure it put all measures in place to stop the killings, saying “God is not happy when the blood of innocent people are shed”.

He commended the efforts of the military in putting a stop to the menace.

The clergyman said the government must ensure that the fight against corruption was total, comprehensive and holistic, urging the government not to compromise the genuineness of the fight as well as apprehend and trial those found wanting.

He therefore appealed to the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the recovered money were not relooted.

He appealed to the government to inject the recovered money into the economy of the country in order to enable the citizens to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“I will like to see a war on corruption that is total, comprehensive and holistic. Regardless, of the political party the corrupt person might be, such a person should be apprehended and tried in the law court”

“We appeal to the government to ensure that the recovered money will not be relooted and the money recovered should be injected back into the economy to enable citizens enjoy the benefits of democracy,” he said.

The clergyman said it was sad that months after the release of other kidnapped girls of Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School, Dapchi, Yobe State, Leah Sharibu’s release was yet to be negotiated by the government.

The cleric however demanded her immediate and unconditional release from her captives.

He therefore called on all Christians to participate in the forthcoming general elections or submit themselves to rule of others

“Today, we are calling on all Christians not only to vote but to be voted for. It is out belief that if Nigeria will have peace, progress and tranquility, genuine Christians must partake in politics of Nigeria ”

The 41st conference which will be held at Ogbogbo Ijebu area of the state from Saturday, August 18 to Wednesday, August 22 is themed “Christians and Nation Building (Proverb 29 verse 2)”.

On the theme, he said “The motives of this theme are obvious. The first one is that as a people, as a church, there is the need to pray and participate in ensuing that those who will rule over us are righteous people. These are those who will be focused on governance, those who will not embezzle Nigeria’s money. The righteous in this context are those who have the interest of the people in their hearts “.

“They are people who will ensure that the safety of lives of all citizens are paramount in their hearts. They are those who will ensure that the nation is economically stable. On the other hands, when the wicked rules, citizens groan and mourn as a result of bad, self-centered way of administering government by the wicked people”.
