The State Government has restated its commitment to continuously embrace ideas and innovations that will ensure that the on-going blue line rail project is completed on schedule.

The Commissioner for Transportation Mr. ‘Ladi Lawanson restated this commitment while fielding questions from journalists recently.

Lawanson noted that the shift in the completion of the project was because there were still some glitches that needed to be resolved.

This, he said, necessitated the Ambode’s Administration’s going back to the drawing board, especially with the change of the contractor which suggested that some of the basic electrical and technological requirements in the earlier signed contract agreement should be upgraded in line with current realities in the industry.

The Commissioner, however, gave the assurance that with the new contractor, Messers. Astrom, a French company, being engaged, 2022 is a more realistic date of completion.

Lawanson further stated that the State government was equally making concerted efforts at ensuring that the water transport sub sector of the State attracts investors to make more it functional. This, he said, necessitated the need for the recently concluded Water Transport Roundtable which brought together investors from all over the world.

He disclosed that discussions were still on with the various would-be investors in the water transport sub sector as the State Government is mindful that it will play a significant role in resolving the traffic gridlock being experienced by Lagosians, noting that Lagos bears the brunt because it serves as the commercial hub of the nation through which at least two-thirds of imports into the country come.

Lawanson added that the State is doing its best with series of stakeholders meetings to resolve all challenges associated with traffic gridlocks, particularly that of the Apapa while also urging journalists to help enlighten the citizenry on the policies and achievements of the Akinwunmi Ambode Administration.
