The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Friday commenced the training of 50 youths on Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking at the opening, the NDE Director-General, Malam Nasiru Ladan, said the training would make the youths generate sustainable incomes and create jobs.

Ladan who was represented by Mrs Naomi Nyadar, the FCT coordinator of the directorate said the vision of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration on agriculture was to work with key stakeholders.

He said the policy of the Federal Government had opened opportunities for youths to embrace agriculture as a business, earn income and create mass employment.

He said the Rural Employment Promotion department (REP) had shifted attention from the usual Rural Agricultural Development and Training Scheme (RADTS) to a more sustainable agricultural training scheme.

He said the empowerment training would turn the trainees to commercial farmers with dependable farm incomes that would reduce commodity importation.

“The duration of the training is three months in which two weeks out of the three months will be for the experiential training in both livestock and crops farming.

“And the remaining period will be used for commercial production exercise on the adaptive experiential farming,” he said.

He said the curriculum was structured to include major areas of modern agricultural production (crop farming and livestock production), marketing and entrepreneur training.
