Oyo @50: Govt approves early office closure on Tuesday
The Oyo State Government has approved the early closure of offices across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to enable public servants to participate fully in activities marking the state’s 50th anniversary.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Adetunji Babatunde, and shared via the state government’s official X handle.
According to the statement, all state government offices are to close by 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
The approval, the government said, was granted by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, as part of preparations for the golden jubilee celebration, tagged OyoStateAt50.
“Heads of MDAs have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive, while also making adequate arrangements for skeletal services in critical areas where necessary,” the statement read.
Prof. Babatunde further urged that the information be widely circulated to ensure awareness and adherence across the state.
The directive comes as Oyo State concludes a week-long series of activities commemorating 50 years since its creation on February 3, 1976, from the former Western State.
The anniversary celebration, themed ‘Consolidating the Legacy, Navigating the Present, and Reimagining the Future,’ commenced on January 26 with an opening ceremony at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The event featured a public lecture delivered by Governor Makinde and the cutting of a symbolic 50th anniversary cake.
The grand finale of the celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, and will feature a gala and award night at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
