The Fanti Carnival traces its roots to the 19th century when freed Afro-Brazilian returnees brought samba rhythms, flamboyant costumes, and carnival traditions back to Lagos. It’s a celebration of cultural resilience and heritage.

Held every year, the carnival brings Lagos Island to life with colorful parades, music, dance, and masquerades. The 2026 edition is scheduled for Monday, April 6.
