Political leaders and philanthropists in Nigeria, have been called upon to see the pursuit of a crusade against poverty as a war that must be fought with all vigour, focus and dedication.
Alhaja Olajumoke M. Durosimi, wife of Hon. Mursiq Yinka Durosimi, chairman Ojo Local Government Area, made the statement during her poverty alleviation empowerment programme for widows and aged women, at the council’s multi purpose hall, recently.
Durosimi, that she was more concerned about women folk, as they were at the receiving end of the scourge and that was why she is committed to empowerment of widows and aged women, so as to let them know that the society still cares for them.
During the programme, about 1,500 widows and aged women were given items which includes foodstuffs, grinding machine, deep freezer and others.
P.M.NEWS also learnt that about 1,500 widows and the aged are on the monthly pay roll of the council.
Durosimi urged the beneficiaries to make use of the opportunities to empower themselves successfully, while she promised not to relent in her effort to support women within the local government. She also promised to increase the number of the beneficiaries as time goes on.
