Earlystart Weekend Football Academy unveiled its programme on Saturday at Union Bank Sports Ground, Lagos, Nigeria
The academy also used the occasion to mark its Children’s Day Tournament. The competition saw the Under-5 and Under-15 teams playing in exhibition games to the delight of guests at the event.
The proprietor of the academy, Barrister Godwin Dudu-Orumen, told P.M.Sports that the aim of setting up the academy was his belief in catching them young.
He said the problem of sports in Nigerian sports is lack of proper planning from the grassroots.
“I am a firm believer of foundation for any human activity and that is why I established this academy. He added that the academy, which has the support of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, has at least 120 kids from ages 5 to 15 years. He revealed that the academy, which has been in existence since three years ago, trains every Saturday morning.
Tony Okonedo, External Affairs Communication Manager of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company disclosed that the company is always ready to support development initiatives in the community it operates, hence the support for to Earlystart Academy.
