Chairman of Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria, Mr. Rufus Oladele Adekanye, has given assurance that the country’s nascent democracy will survive and endure as the nation marked its 11th year of unbroken democratic rule last weekend.
Speaking with LG Circuit, Adekanye said Nigeria’s democracy has surmounted unprecedented democratic and constitutional challenges with remarkable success, stressing that with the commitment of all stakeholders, there is hope and assurance that it will survive and endure.
According to him, Nigeria has become a synosure of all eyes in anticipation of a free and fair election in 2011 and as such, all must strive to ensure that the principle of one man, one vote as a panacea for credible election in Nigeria becomes the order of the day.
“It is important that Nigerians join hands together to nurture, strengthen and correct the past imperfection in our democracy so that the labour and sacrifice of all that fought for this present democratic set up will not be in vain,†the council boss fondly called Lado by his supporters, added.
