When news hit town that the then unknown dumpsite scavenger and aspiring artiste called Eric Obuh a.k.a. Vocal Slender, who was featured in the controversial BBC2 documentary Welcome To Lagos, will be headlining an already sold out CokoBar.com-organised concert at O2 Arena, London, United Kingdom, last weekend, it was with high hope that a Nigerian slumdog millionaire is in the making.
Showbiz Trends learnt that Vocal Slender became the focal point of the concert that also featured other top Nigerian stars like Wande Coal, as many picked their tickets to enjoy the homeboy sing his Owo ti yapa song.
But on the concert date, Slender failed to show up as he could not make it to London. Reason for his absence: he had visa problem and was thus stuck in Lagos.
However, a source has revealed the true reason why the young man failed to attend the London show that could have turned his life around.
According to the source, a rival show promoter had approached Slender with more money to dump the CokoBar show, a deal, it was learnt, he turned down. So when he put in for his visa application in Abuja, nobody knows how this other promoter got to know about it and in the big bag of passports that came back from the UK office in Abuja, only Slender’s passport was missing.
However, speaking with Showbiz Trends, Slender disclosed that he has been finally issued the British visa with work permit and will be performing this weekend in a star-studded concert featuring 9ice and Terry G.
