Kano Lawyer Faces Trial For 419

Temporary freedom has come the way of a Kano-based legal practitioner, Ayaga Alexander, accused of defrauding his client of about N1.6 million. A Kano Magistrate’s Court presided over by Binta Ibrahim Galadanchi granted him bail after a fierce legal argument.

The accused person denied the content of police First Information Report, read out to the court by prosecutor Sunday Onu.

“I have been remanded for two weeks. They did not allow me have a dialogue with the complainant and no reason was given to me for that at the police station for not permitting me reconcile with the complainant.

If I am granted bail I will dialogue with the complainant,” Alexanda lamented.

The Magistrate, Binta Galadanchi, ruled that the accused person be released on bail with conditions that he should produce two sureties in the sum of N1 million each, while the court adjourned the case till 16 June.

Meanwhile, according to police charge sheet, the 39-years old lawyer fraudulently obtained the sum of N1.6m from Blessing Jimoh, a resident of Zungeru road in Kano metropolis and five others, on the pretence to secure a rented accommodation on their behalf.

The police are further alleging that Alexander failed to fulfill the agreed terms on which the money was handed to him by the complainant, adding that he absconded to Tudun Wada Pantami in Gombe State.

The prosecution noted that the accused fled from Kano to Gombe in a bid not to repay the monies he allegedly collected under false pretence, adding that the action of the accused person was contrary to Section 32 of the Penal Code.
