Ibeju Lekki LG To Honour Athletes 9 June

Baring any unforeseen circumstance, Ibeju Lekki Local Government will honour its victorious athletes at the last Lagos State Sports Festival on Wednesday, 9 June, 2010.

The ceremony will be held at the proposed Ibeju Lekki, Stadium, Idi-Orogbo, Ibeju, Lagos, Nigeria at 2:30p.m.

The local government came first in the Sports Festival with 99 gold, 86 silver and 65 bronze medals. According to the Head of Department, Agric, Rural and Social Development of the council, T.O. Arogundade, the ceremony will also witness the foundation laying of Ibeju Lekki Mini Stadium and hosting of Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club.

The cricket club won the Lagos State Cricket League  recently at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island, Nigeria.

Arogundade disclosed that Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola is expected to be the Guest of Honour at the event, while Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development and Dr. Tola Kasali, Commissioner for Special Duties are Special Guests of Honour.

He said that the Chief Host, Prince Bayo Balogun, Executive Chairman, Ibeju Lekki Local Government, has enjoined the committee set up to organse the event to ensure that the day is a memorable one for the athletes and all invited guests.

“Ibeju Lekki will be agog on that day as we want to honour our athletes because they made us proud,” said Arogundade.
