Chief Coach of Nationwide Football Club of Ikeja, Yinka Lawson says he will prefer to play low profile competition than feature in the forthcoming Oba’s Cup.

Lawson said he has decided not to participate in Oba’s Cup this year because the grassroots football tourney has lost its glory. He told GSG after his team’s training at the Sky Power playground, Ikeja, on Tuesday that Oba’s Cup has lost its glamour and this has taken the shine off the championship.

Lawson, who started his coaching career 12 years ago, said he would prefer his team to feature in a low profile tourney than play in Oba’s Cup this year.

Also speaking, assistant coach of the team, Harry Ohioze said Nationwide will rather play friendly matches or a low profile competition than to play Oba’s Cup.

“We have money to register for the Oba’s Cup, but we prefer to play competition that is not organised by the Lagos F.A.” he said.
