A tout, Joseph Okon Asuquo exhibited the height of bestiality in Mbiabo Ikot Offiong in Odukapani Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria, when he hacked his friend, Okokon Nyong, to death with a machete.
The bestial act, which has left residents of the area living in fear, took place during a fight between the two men.
“The two men work as loaders (touts) in our motor park and the relationship between them had been cordial up till Friday when there was a quarrel between them which led to a fight.
“People intervened and everybody tought the fight had ended and the two went their separate ways,†Chief Ekong Ita Ita, Village head of Mbiabo told P.M.NEWS.
According to the village head, after the two went their separate ways, little did anyone know that Okon Asuquo was bent on venting his anger on Okokon for “daring to fight†him.
According to him, Okokon was coming back from work last Saturday when he met Okon Asuquo who had earlier left the park to his house coming towards him with a machete and he attempted to flee. But as he was running, he stumbled and fell, and Okon Asuquo caught up with him and hacked Okokon to death.
Okokon’s body is now at the University of Calabar Teaching hospital morgue while Asuquo is now with the State Criminal Investigations Department at the Cross River Police headquarters where, ASP Dickson Essien, the Police Public Relations Officer says, he is being interrogated. “He would be made to appear in court soon to answer to murder charges.â€
Mrs Arit Bassey, a staff of the Cross River State House of Assembly, a relative of the slain man said effort to get the family of the assailant to bury the deceased as directed by the police is being rebuffed and appealed to the police to intervene and ensure the body is buried by the family of the killer.
