Whereabouts Of Kidnapped Paramount Ruler Unknown

As the kidnap of Eze Sunday Njoku,the monarch of Umuebulum in Oyigbo local government area of Rivers state by unidentified gunmen who stormed Assemblies Of God Church during church service enters the third day, his  whereabouts has remained unknown as he was said to have been  smuggled across the border community between Abia and Rivers states through the Imo River.

The gunmen stormed Assemblies Of God Church during church service on Sunday and took the traditional ruler away and he has been held hostage since then.

Dr Rita Innoma-Abbey,the Rivers Command Public Relations Officer told PMNEWS that no contact has been established with the kidnappers.

Recounting the efforts of the police to track down the gansters, she said the “Police patrol team pursued the gang to Imo River, exchanging gun fire but they escaped into Omagwa, Abia State abandoning their Jetta and Lancer cars.

Alerted Marine Police also searched the river and patrolled without successful rescue. “Sixteen suspects, two of them deeply involved, were arrested. Police Anti-Kidnap Unit is investigating the incident,” she said.

According to eyewitness account on the kidnap incident,”the gunmen who never cared that they were desecrating the house of God, shot and killed two worshippers on the spot,while others  who tried to rescue the paramount ruler received various degrees of bullet wounds”.

Innoma-Abbey said the Rivers State Police Command is working with its Abia counterpart but expressed worry that the hoodlums have not established contact with the relatives of the victim or demand for any ransom.
