Parents and guardians have been advised to engage their children and wards in sporting activities in order to keep them busy and make them more useful to the society.
Speaking at the maiden edition of Schools Sports Festival organised by Lagos Mainland Local Government and Yaba Local Council Development Area of Lagos State at the University of Lagos Sports Centre, recently, Abimbola Kehinde, the chairman, PlanningÂ Committee of the competition said the festival was organised to discover talents in the children with a view to catch them young and in line with Governor Babatunde Raji Fasholaâ€™s administration, which attaches much importance to sports development in the state, especially at the grassroots level.
He said the sporting event, which hopes to be a yearly affair, also had the backing of the Education Secretary in the council area, Bisi Adetola, who, according to him, is just four months in office.
Also speaking on the event, the chairman, Technical Committee, Felix Badejo Ademola, explained that the main reason for the competition was to discover talents, bring them together and groom them for national and international sports events.
He said pupils from the 57 public primary and 14 junior secondary schools in the two council areas participated in the two-day event.
