Executive Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim on Wednesday night motivated the Super Eagles with some cash as the team look ahead to this afternoon’s must-win FIFA World Cup Group B match against Greece.

The Imo State number one citizen sent an emissary to the Nigeria camp at the Bloem Spa Lodge and Conference Centre and the money was presented to Captain Nwankwo Kanu after dinner.

“I want to appreciate you guys for what you did in your first match against Argentina. This is just a token and I assure you that Nigerians back home are proud of you. We also believe that you have the ability to defeat Greece on Thursday and steer your World Cup campaign back on track.

“Against Argentina, you went all out for victory but  luck was not on your side. That is sport. But against Greece, you will have the luck and score the goals that matter,” said Ohakim.

Responding, Captain Nwankwo Kanu said Governor Ohakim’s gesture has again confirmed that Nigerians appreciate the team and have faith in the Super Eagles’ ability to reach the knock-out stages.

“This is heart-warming. It shows that our people are behind us and support us and they have faith in us. It is not the amount that matters but the gesture. We are appreciative”.
