Remember Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, the new PDP National Chairman? In the heat of the annulment of June 12, 1993 Presidential elections won by Chief Moshood Abiola, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, the then Governor of Enugu State called a Press Conference in Enugu and told the world that there will be another civil war if June 12, 1993 is revisited and Chief Abiola made president.
It is 17 years now since that unfortunate incident and political observers, analysts, pro-democracy, and human-rights activists know what the nation went through, hundreds of people died including the winner of that election Chief Abiola and his wife, Kudirat. Economists and political strategists know what this country went through in those years of the locusts. Yet the principal characters that threw their weights behind the criminal annulment are today traversing the political landscape, calling the shots, ravaging and pillaging our common patrimony with reckless abandon.
I remain fully convinced and persuaded that offenders must be punished in this country, so that peoples’ hearts will not be schemed to continue to do wrong. In the past 17 years, and in my own very eyes, I have seen the annuller’s accomplices, killers, murderers, votes robbers and their ilk occupying very sensitive positions and that made me to run away with an unhappy conclusion that ours is a nation of anything goes.
It pains me to no end that we continue to recycle those who destroyed our democracy 17 years ago to our peril. Rewarding a well-known enemy of democracy with such exalted office is to play to the gallery and inflict violence on our collective psyche. No wonder our country is not moving forward. No wonder we have become a laughing stock in the comity of nations. I make bold to say that PDP will never get it right because it is a party destined to die for Nigeria to live. And unless this house of cards, this nest of killers, this shrine of corruption, the cathedral of debauchery, this cesspit of confusion, this empire of thieves and home of fools are completely destroyed, there will be no respite for this country.
God please help us to consign PDP to history in Nigeria; help us to rebuild our raped country, please help us to raise men to restore confidence in our people.
