LASPOTECH Enforces Dress Code

The Head of Department (HOD), Accountancy Department, Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo Campus, Mrs. Olubukunola Akingbelure, has explained the reasons she enforced a dress code on students in the department.

Akingbelure, who introduced the law about four weeks ago, said the idea is to discourage indecent dressing,” adding that, “when they go out, it will distinguish them from touts.

The law required the male students to dress corporate, which include wearing plain shirt and tie, while their female counterparts should wear decent clothes that will project the good image of the institution. The students are also mandated to wear cap or scarf to complete their traditional attire.

In a chat with Campus Square, Mrs. Akingbeleru, said higher institution is not for academic purpose alone, but to also inculcate good moral values in students.

“When I told my students that I don’t want to see indecent dressing they laughed, maybe they taught I was joking. A week after, I discovered that so many of them didn’t dress properly, so I sent them out of the lecture rooms and even took them to the gate,” the H.O.D stated.

Some of the students supported the new development. Iroko Oluwaseun, HND 1 student of Accountanc, said:  ” As a student of Accountancy, the introduction of dress code will teach us how to dress as professionals when we graduate from school.”
