The police in Lagos are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a couple: Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Abiola at Oworonshoki area of Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the incident happened on Saturday at No. 5, Folorunsho Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos.
Sources told NAN that the man, Stephen, was about 45 years old, while his wife, Kemi, was 35 years old.
Sources said the couple went to bed on Friday night without any sign of sickness or trouble but in the morning neighbours found them dead.
“We got to know of their death on Saturday morning at about 9.30 a.m. when their landlord wanted to have a meeting with them. “The door of their room was locked inside and after series of knocks by the landlord and there was no response, the door was forced open.
“When policemen forced their door open, their corpses were found on their bed with foam on their lips,’’ a source said.
The source said the case was reported at the Oworonshoki Police station and policemen had begun investigations into the matter.
Mr. Frank Mba, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the story and said that preliminary investigations showed that there was no sign of a struggle or violence in the room.
Mba also said there was no leftover food or drink in the room, adding that a sketch of the scene and photographs of what detectives saw in the house were taken.
He said that the couple’s bodies had been deposited at Isolo General Hospital for autopsy.
