An early morning fire today razed the warehouse of The Sun Publishing Company headquarters at 2, Coscharis Layout, Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria, destroying newsprint and other valuables worth millions of naira.
It was gathered that the fire started at about 4a.m. as a result of electrical fault in the clinic. The fire spread fast to the offices close to the warehouse like the sports desk where Soccer Star, a sister daily publication is produced. P.M.NEWS checks revealed that the workers had completed today’s production before the fire started.
According to some of the workers who spoke to our correspondent, the fire outbreak will definitely affect the newspaper’s production tomorrow.
The workers expressed fears that the enormity of the damage and the extent of the loss the company incurred may affect the publishing house’s fortunes and consequently their welfare.
None of the management staff of the company was available to comment on the fire incident, though some of the security men briefed journalists who were at the scene of the incident.
Men of the Lagos State Fire and Safety Services later arrived the scene and succeeded in putting out the fire after hours of battling to control it.
At the time of filing this report, the company’s workers were cleaning the warehouse, preparatory to commencing the production of tomorrow’s newspapers.
