At least seven persons have been reported killed while several others were severely injured as Hausas and Yorubas in Ijora Oloye, Lagos State, Nigeria, clashed early this morning.
P.M.NEWS correspondent at the scene of the incident gathered from eyewitnesses that the fight started at about 6. a.m. today when two young men, a Hausa and a Yoruba had a quarrel and started fighting in an Indian hemp joint where both of them had gone to smoke.
The fight was said to have degenerated into an ethnic one, when the Hausas and Yorubas in the locality took sides and joined in the fight.
Weapons such as broken bottles, dagger, knives and cutlasses were freely used by them.
However, over 1,000 policemen from different police commands in Lagos State have been drafted to the area to bring the situation under control.
At the time of filing this report, normalcy had returned to the area, but policemen can be seen patrolling the area, while they stopped and check passers-by.
There was been no official reaction to the clash as at press time.
