Sixteen clubs across the state are expected to take part in the second edition of the Adedoyin Adeyemi Soccer Championship which will come up in August at the Gbagada football pitch.
The tourney, which is put together by Gbagada Grassroots Sports Association, is sponsored by Honourable Adedoyin Adeyemi.
Among the clubs that have registered for the championship are Silent Strikers, Success FC, Current FC, Jagunmolu Babes, Owo-Iya and Pablo FC.
Secretary of the association, Kemac Emina, said only six clubs have completed their registration formalities, adding that more clubs are still expected to register for the competition.
He said the grassroots tourney will not only help expose the players, but give the local coaches the opportunity to scout for players at the competition.
“After a disappointing outing of Super Eagles at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, we believe that only grassroots tourney like this will help us discover young talents for the national team,†he said.
