Lagos Inter-Tertiary Games: Yaba Tech, LASPOTECH Win Basketball Gold

The male team of Yaba College of Technology and female team of Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH, have won gold medals in the basketball event of the ongoing Lagos Inter-Tertiary Games 2010.

The finals of the event, played at the basketball court of Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria, saw Yaba Tech boys defeating overwhelming their counterparts from LASPOTECH in a game that ended 41-37 points in the male category. The LASPOTECH ladies were too much for the Yaba Tech squad in the female categories as they fell 43-36 points.

University of Lagos, UNILAG team won the third placed trophy in the male category, while Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education team came third in the female category.

Winners in the two categories went home with the sum of N450,000 each, while teams in the second position were given the sum of N250,000 each. The third placed teams were given the sum of N150,000 each.

Among the basketball enthusiasts, who came to watch the finals yesterday were the chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Prince Wale’ Oladunjoye, the Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Raji Fashola; Major Babatunde Tannos, Alhaji Amusa Shittu, former Nigerian international, who is popularly called “Bulldozer” in his playing days, Babatunde Ibrahim, a USA-based member of Lagos All Stars and Mr. Qadri, a staff of the Sports Ministry.
