A Lagos-based lawyer, Ochuba Peter, has been charged before the Chief Magistrateâ€™s Court, Ebute-Metta for allegedly stealing a Volkswagen Bora car worth N2 million.
The 42-year old lawyer is facing a seven-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, altering and perjury.
The allegedly stolen vehicle, a Volkswagen Bora car was said to belong to a Lagos outfit, Haile Sellasias Sureties Ltd., located at 60, Adetona Street, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos.
The lawyer was specificially accused of swearing an oath and allegedly stating falsely in an affidavit that he was the lawful owner of the car with registration number CN 519 JJJ which he claimed to have bought from Messiers Sellasies Sureties Ltd.
Ochuba was also alleged to have induced officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation to change the ownership of the car to his name in receipt number 0059009 dated February 9, 2008.
He was further accused of inducing officials of the Central Registry of the Nigeria Police Headquarters, Kam Salem House, Moloney Street, Lagos, to issue him with particulars of the vehicle as the subsequent owner.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegations and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Ogala, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.
