Vasity Student, 2 Others Arrested With Guns

A 200 level student of Mass Communication of Tai Solarin University of Education, (TASUED), Ijegun near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State and two others have been arrested by detectives attached to Ogun State Police Command for allegedly being in possession of guns.

The suspects are Adebisi Ope, 25, a student of TASUED; Tobi Animashaun, 24,  a former ND II student of Business Administration at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, (MAPOLY) and Taiwo Kayesinmi, 25,  also an HND graduate of Business Administration, MAPOLY.

According to the police,  the suspects confessed that a prominent politician in Ogun State recruited one of them to bring the guns in readiness for the 2011 elections.

Ope said: “I am a student of Mass Communication at TASUED. I stay in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. On Monday 7 June 2010, a friend of mine (Olamide) who had graduated from the institution came from Lagos to meet me in the hostel. He told me that he needed to go to Ministry of Education in Abeokuta to process his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in any of the Yoruba states.

“He told me to accompany him. We eventually went to my apartment at 4, Omorin street, Obantoko, Abeokuta. I rented this room with a friend called Segun. I met Animashaun and Kayesinmi in the room. I went  to take my bath and as I came out of the bathroom, I sighted two guns in Olamide’s travel bag. When he opened it, I quickly called the attention of Segun and he told me that I should not worry that he wanted to introduce Olamide to a prominent politician in Ogun State to work  for him in the forthcoming elections.

“On 8 June, 2010, policemen in mufti  came to my room. When I opened the door, sensing danger, Olamide and Segun fled. They later recovered the guns.”

Animashaun said: “I have been in Egba, Abeokuta for about two years and I left for Lagos after my National Diploma, ND, to work in a hotel as bar attendant on a salary of N25,000 monthly. On 5 June, 2010, I had a wedding to attend at Sabo, so I went to stay with my friend, Kayesinmi. We were together when the police came to search the room and recovered the two guns.”
