A stalwart of the Action Congress (AC) in Lagos State, Chief Ayo Akande, has called for the involvement of traditional rulers in the political governance of the country.
He made this call during a maiden meeting of the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Traditional Rulers Council held with the political leaders, chairman of Ifako Ijaiye Local Government, Demola Doherty and his counterpart, Benjamin Labinjo of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area,  which took place at the Ogba residence of their apex leader.
Chief Akande pointed out that there was no way any state could achieve political stability without the traditional rulers who are custodians of traditional values and customs.
He noted that government at all levels should give traditional rulers a role in the governance of the country, adding that governance started with the traditional rulers before, the adoption of British form of government in Nigeria.
The party chieftain who commended the traditional rulers for their unity of purpose, said with their regular meeting with the political leaders, the local governments had chartered a new course in the progress of the two councils.
The chairman of Ojokoro LC DAÂ solicited for the continued cooperation of the traditional council members in moving the two councils forward.
He said with the new initiative of Chief Akande in tapping the wisdom of the traditional rulers in the running of government at the grassroots, the LCDAÂ would witness a tremendous development.
The Oba of Ifako Kingdom Oba Fatunsi Obawole was also  optimistic that the involvement of traditional rulers in government  would serve the people better and bring about
the desired dividends of democracy to their communities.
He advised the two council chairmen to be receptive to the advice from the traditional rulers in moving the councils forward.
