A police sergeant, simply identified as Henry, was killed at about 11 p.m. yesterday by a gang of armed robbers who attacked a police patrol team at Pipeline, Idimu, Lagos, Nigeria.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the unidentified gunmen were driving four tricycles popularly called Keke Marwa, when they ran into the policemen in the patrol van at Idimu.
The four robbers jumped out of their tricycles and opened fire on them.
Immediately after the shoot-out, the robbers were said to have abandoned the tricycles and fled the scene.
While three of the slain sergant’s colleagues, who were seriously injured, were later rushed to the hospital, Sergeant Henry was reported to have died instantly.
When our correspondent visited the Idimu Police Division this morning, the tricycles were seen parked at the station. Relations of the victims were also at the station.
Though the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the Idimu was not available for comment, a source close to the police informed our correspondent that officers and men of the Idimu division have been in sober mood since the incident happened.
The source said Sergeant Henry was killed, barely a month after another policeman, Corporal Monday Ijebor, was shot dead by armed robbers.
