The National U-18 Women squad will tomorrow jet out of the country to Cairo, Egypt for the FIBA-Africa Championship.
In a chat with Basketball Timeout, Head coach of the team, Aderemi ‘Owolo’ Adewunmi, assured Nigerians that the team will do everything possible to make Nigerians happy.
He promised that the team will not only pick a ticket for the FIBA-World Championship but go for the trophy. Expressing confidence in the ability of the girls to make Nigerians proud, he said they are going to take the matches one after the other.
Also speaking on telephone from their camp in Kaduna, point guard of First Deepwater Basketball Club, Upe Atosu, called on Nigerians to support the team with prayers, adding that the team are focused on the challenges ahead of them. He said they will stand out in the competition.
Nigeria will play in group B of the championship against the defending champions, Mali, Mozambique, Cote d’Ivoire and Congo.
The host country, Egypt, will play in group A alongside Angola, Tunisia, Senegal and Kenya.
The championship will be held between 29th of this month and 6 August, with the first two teams picking tickets as Africa’s representatives to the world championship.
