God’s Favour Football Club of Amuwo-Odofin kept the hope of progressing in the Under 13 Collins Edwin Soccer Championship alive, when they defeated Soccer Pro Academy 1-0 on Tuesday.
The team, which lost 0-1 against Majors International in their opening match, put up a good show to silence Soccer pro Academy during the match decided at the FIFA Legacy Asrto-Tuf football pitch of National Stadium, Lagos.
In the encounter watched by a large crowd, God’s Favour were delighted to watch as the young lads gave a good account of themselves. Their effort was rewarded when the centre referee awarded a penalty in the 65th minutes. The spot kick was scored by Daniel John to give his team the much needed three points of the match.
Team manager of God’s Favour, Robinson Emuoma, praised his boys for the victory, adding that their next two matches must be won if they want to qualify for the next stage.
However, Soccer Pro coach, Obi Nwabuzor, blamed his players for missing several chances in front of goal. He said their opponents did not deserve the victory.
“We gave the match to our opponents on a platter of gold. We played them throughout the encounter, but my boys failed to convert many chances we had to goals,†he said.
